HARRISBURG, PA – Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) criticized progressive state lawmakers and Governor Josh Shapiro on Sunday for signing a $50.8 billion budget that fails to solve the state’s spending deficit.
As the state’s largest grassroots organization, AFP-PA called on state lawmakers to balance their budgets like their constituents do and pass a cyclical budgeting rule to tie the government’s expenditures to Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
Emily Brey, AFP-PA state director, gave the following statement:
“Families and business owners are required to balance their budgets. While the overall spend is less than the cost of the Governor’s progressive wish list—which he laid out in February—taxpayers are still on the hook for Harrisburg Democrats’ spending spree.
“That’s why we remain supportive of Rep. Tom Jones’ Responsible Budgeting Act for providing commonsense guardrails on state spending, respects taxpayers, and puts Pennsylvania on the path to success.”
