AFP-OH Urges Lawmakers to Override Vetoes, Protect Buckeye Blueprint Reforms

COLUMBUS, OH — Americans for Prosperity–Ohio (AFP-OH) is calling on the Ohio General Assembly to override Governor DeWine’s vetoes of key provisions in House Bill 96—provisions that were central to advancing the Buckeye Blueprint for greater opportunity, accountability, and freedom in the Buckeye State.

The vetoes undermine major wins for Ohio families and taxpayers by:

  • Blocking Education Savings Accounts for families in non-chartered, non-public schools—affordable tools that would have expanded school choice and empowered parents.
  • Stripping out REINS Act reforms that would have strengthened legislative oversight of costly regulations, enforced red tape reduction, and restored constitutional balance through JCARR.
  • Rejecting property tax reforms that offered structural accountability, limited unvoted tax hikes, capped excessive school district reserves, and simplified the levy system for voters.

“These vetoes threaten to undo some of the most important pillars of our Buckeye Blueprint,” said Donovan O’Neil, State Director of AFP-OH. “Lawmakers now have a clear opportunity to stand with Ohio families and taxpayers by overriding these short-sighted vetoes and restoring the policies that move our state forward.”

AFP-Ohio urges swift legislative action to protect these critical reforms and keep Ohio on the path to prosperity.
