AFP-NV Calls on Nevada Senators to Advance Permitting Reform as Kamala Harris Campaigns in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV – Yesterday, former Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford were in Las Vegas for a campaign event where they claimed they would “discuss the challenges Nevadans face.” In the end, it amounted to little more than political theater.

Nevada deserves more than a publicity stunt. AFP-NV is urging the state’s U.S. senators to take action on comprehensive permitting reform that will lower costs, spur investment, and create jobs.

AFP-NV Deputy State Director Wiselet Rouzard issued the following statement:

“While Kamala Harris and Aaron Ford are spending their time organizing campaign photo ops, Nevada families are desperate for solutions to the problems they grapple with every day. If they actually wanted to help the hardworking people across our state, they should have joined AFP-NV in urging Senators Masto and Rosen to take action on permitting reform legislation in the U.S. Senate.

“At their event, Harris and Ford ignored the fact that neighboring California continues to pursue Biden-era climate policies, including refinery shutdowns that are driving up gas prices for Nevada families. As Attorney General, Aaron Ford also failed to support SB 505, legislation sponsored by Republican Minority Leader Senator Titus and Assemblyman Greg Hafen aimed at addressing these challenges. Senator Rosen has supported the same flawed climate policies contributing to higher energy costs and supply restrictions, which is why we are calling on her to correct course by backing the SPEED Act.

“For too long, burdensome red tape has erected barriers that discourage domestic energy production, creating higher than necessary prices and a dependence on unreliable energy sources. Permitting reform is a broad-based and foundational improvement that will lower costs for families and spur investment and growth.”
