Carson City, NV — Americans for Prosperity – Nevada (AFP-NV) today praised Gov. Joe Lombardo’s executive order reforming the state’s data center tax abatement program, which requires companies receiving incentives to cover their own power costs, meet local water standards, and stop diverting revenue from Nevada’s schools.
Ronnie Najarro, AFP-NV State Director, released the following statement:
“Governor Lombardo took a meaningful step to make sure the costs of data center growth don’t fall on Nevada families and taxpayers. Requiring these companies to cover the costs they create, meet local water standards, and protect funding for our schools is common sense, and AFP-NV applauds him for acting.
“For too long, Nevada’s tax incentive program allowed companies to receive abatements while shifting costs and risks onto ratepayers. This order begins to correct that by putting the cost-causer, not the ratepayer, on the hook, while addressing the permitting and grid bottlenecks that have slowed responsible energy development.
“Data center growth can be a tremendous opportunity for Nevada if we get the rules right. We’re glad to see Governor Lombardo lead on this issue, and AFP-NV stands ready to work with him and the Legislature to build on this progress through the Speed to Power process, the upcoming PUC docket, and further reforms that keep the program transparent and accountable to Nevada taxpayers and ratepayers.”
