CHARLOTTE, NC—Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina (AFP-NC) applauded the efforts of its activists and coalition partners in defeating a hurtful tax increase on Mecklenburg County consumers. The proposed measure that appeared on yesterday’s ballot would have added a quarter-cent to the current sales tax rate, purportedly to fund Mecklenburg County arts, culture, and other projects.
AFP-NC State Director Chris McCoy issued the following statement:
“We applaud the continued efforts of our activists and coalition partners in making sure that North Carolinians are able to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks. Yesterday’s vote should serve as a wake-up call to the Mecklenburg County Commissioners that they should better prioritize spending and resources rather than raising taxes on our families.”
