AFP-MN Calls for Deficit Elimination in Special Legislative Session

ST. PAUL, MN – Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota (AFP-MN) called on the state House and Senate to balance the state budget in the upcoming special legislative session, after lawmakers failed to eliminate the projected $6 billion deficit before they adjourned on Monday.

As a champion for Minnesota taxpayers, AFP-MN urges lawmakers to work quickly to scale back the reckless spending of the Democratic Farmer Labor Party (DFL) that wiped out the state’s historic budget surplus and left hardworking Minnesotans to pick up the bill.

Jake Coleman, AFP-MN state director, gave the following statement:

“Minnesota taxpayers already footed the bill for Democrats to boycott the first three weeks of the legislative session, and now we have to pay them overtime to clean up the mess they caused.

“The DFL’s wager that they can squander our state’s prosperity with unchecked spending on extreme progressive policies without any consequences is cynical and naive. Their poor governance lost them their trifecta government last year and will cost them even more if they refuse to moderate their positions and work with Republicans to craft a responsible budget.”
