AFP-MI on Benson-Brinks Ticket: Two Records of Making Life Harder in Michigan

LANSING, MI — Americans for Prosperity-Michigan (AFP-MI) State Director Tim Golding released the following statement after Jocelyn Benson named Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks as her running mate:

“Jocelyn Benson and Winnie Brinks have both spent the last several years making everyday life in Michigan harder, and now they are asking for a promotion. Benson campaigned on 30-minute waits at Secretary of State branches and delivered an appointment system that had Michiganders waiting weeks, sometimes months, for something as routine as a driver’s license or a title transfer. The complaints piled up until her office had to add 350,000 slots to dig out.

“Brinks has run the state Senate since January 2023, and Michigan families have been paying for it ever since. The income tax rate went back up to 4.25 percent in 2024, and the bill to lock in the lower rate passed the House and died in her chamber. Right-to-work was repealed on her watch, so a worker in Grand Rapids can once again be forced to pay a union to keep a job. Townships lost their say over industrial wind and solar after Brinks pushed through the siting law, and regulators have kept approving rate increases while household electric bills climb.

“John James has the answers. He has committed to phasing out the income tax, repealing the clean energy mandate, canceling SOAR outright, and auditing every dollar the state spends.”
