AFP-MI: Five Questions Jocelyn Benson Must Answer in Gubernatorial Debate Against John James

DETROIT, MI – Ahead of tonight’s Gubernatorial debate between Republican nominee and U.S. Congressman John James and Democratic nominee Jocelyn Benson, Americans for Prosperity–Michigan (AFP-MI) is calling on Benson to answer five questions top of mind for Michigan voters.

Informed by door-to-door conversations with voters, AFP-MI highlights five issues that the moderator should press Benson on during the debate tonight:

  1. Michigan’s green energy law requires 100% “clean” electricity by 2040. Will Benson commit to keeping this law even if it raises energy bills for Michigan families and employers?

  2. Benson has called for a “broad review” of how the state raises revenue. Will she rule out any tax increase on Michigan families and small businesses?

  3. Benson’s education plan never mentions education freedom. If a parent believes their child’s assigned school is failing them, does she believe that parents have the right to choose a different school, and would her administration expand or limit that right?

  4. Will Benson back policies that expand government control over health care, housing, and energy, or will she commit to lower costs through competition and choice?

  5. Can Benson name a single policy issue where she disagrees with Gov. Whitmer?

AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding issued the following statement:

“More of the same from Lansing will not get the job done. Michigan families are determined to find relief from rising costs, and Congressman John James has outlined a clear vision for lower energy bills, lower taxes, and better opportunities for every Michigan resident, family, and business. Tonight, voters deserve direct answers on where Jocelyn Benson stands. We look forward to hearing them.”
