AFP-MI Criticizes Whitmer for Focusing on Public Appearances Over Economic Relief

LANSING, MI – Americans for Prosperity–Michigan (AFP–MI) today responded to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s appearance at Michigan State University’s commencement ceremony, raising concerns that the governor continues to prioritize public appearances while Michigan families face rising costs and economic uncertainty.

AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding issued the following statement:

“Governor Whitmer always seems to find time for another speech, photo-op, or media appearance, so it’s good to see she’s back in Michigan. But while the governor is in the spotlight, Michigan families are still waiting for meaningful action to lower costs and address the state’s affordability challenges.

“Michigan taxpayers are right to be frustrated. While families face rising costs, Lansing insiders have allegedly leveraged political connections to secure and misuse millions in taxpayer funding. Michiganders deserve accountability and real economic relief, not a culture of political favoritism and weak oversight.

“Across the state, families are dealing with higher costs, a sluggish economy, and growing uncertainty. Speeches and staged appearances won’t lower grocery bills, make housing more affordable, or help families get ahead. Michiganders will be watching to see whether the governor delivers real results.”
