AFP, Jersey 1st Slams Record-Breaking Budget

Trenton, NJ— Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and Jersey 1st condemned New Jersey Democrats following the passage of the FY 2027 budget, the largest in New Jersey history. The budget, drafted behind closed doors, fails to address what New Jerseyans actually need: real tax relief, a government they can trust, and a fiscal foundation built to last.

AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly and Rosemary Becchi, Jersey 1st President and Founder, said:

“This record-breaking budget that was pushed through the legislature in the eleventh hour is the latest example of a broken process that shuts out taxpayers and breaks the promises made to them. Governor Sherrill promised transparency and a new direction for Trenton. Today, that promise was broken. This budget was negotiated in secret, rushed through the legislature without public input, and signed without accountability.

“New Jersey’s motto is ‘Liberty and Prosperity,’ but this budget delivers neither. It will only exacerbate New Jersey’s spending problem, producing a deficit of almost $1.4 billion that future generations will take on.

“New Jersey lawmakers had a chance to put taxpayers first, govern transparently, and grow an economy where families and businesses can thrive. Unfortunately, they chose a path that includes more spending and less accountability. Until Democrat lawmakers confront the root cause by reining in spending and adopting real structural reforms, New Jerseyans will continue to be asked to pay more while getting less in return.”
