AFP, Jersey 1st: NJ Has Fewer Jobs Today Than It Did a Year Ago Due to Trenton’s Policies

Trenton, NJ — According to a preliminary report released by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the Garden State shed more than 25,000 nonfarm jobs in July. Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and Jersey 1st say the numbers reflect a state that is becoming less competitive under Trenton’s economic policies.

AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly and Rosemary Becchi, Jersey 1st Founder and President, said:

“It’s no surprise that New Jersey’s job opportunities are waning when the business climate is driving the largest employers to move or expand elsewhere. A strong economy is not built on regulations that block economic development, and this jobs report is proof of that.

“If the Garden State wants to buck this trend, broad-based tax and regulatory reform is needed to make New Jersey more affordable and easier to start a business. AFP and Jersey 1st urge Governor Sherrill to create an economic environment where businesses want to invest, and families can actually get ahead.”
