AFP & CVA Launch “Make Government Work” Campaign with Seven-Figure Investment to End Dysfunction in Washington

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), alongside Concerned Veterans for America (CVA), launched a major new seven-figure campaign — Make Government Work — which will feature a significant ad buy and a new website, MakeGovernmentWork.com, to demand accountability, efficiency, and transparency from Washington.

The campaign comes as Americans grow increasingly frustrated with a federal government that lurches from crisis to crisis, fails to pass budget bills on time, and buries families and businesses in red tape. Through a series of targeted policy reforms and a robust national outreach effort, AFP & CVA are calling on lawmakers to stop the dysfunction, make government work for the American people, and start delivering results.

“Washington’s constant crisis-to-crisis governing has become the norm — and Americans are paying the price,” said Kent Strang, Managing Director at Americans for Prosperity. “From the constant shutdown threats to budget bloat and unchecked bureaucracy, the system is broken. The Make Government Work campaign is about fixing that — with real reforms that restore accountability and force government to live within its means.”

“America’s servicemembers and veterans took an oath to defend the Constitution. Washington’s gotten away from some of the principals in that document that make the system work for the American people,” said John Vick, Executive Director at Concerned Veterans for America. “It’s time we righted the ship and stopped budget crises and crippling government waste for all Americans.

A Commonsense Agenda to Fix Washington

“Make Government Work” is built around a legislative agenda that includes:

  • The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act – Keeps government open by requiring Congress to stay in session until budget bills are passed, with automatic funding to prevent service disruptions.

  • The Reorganizing Government Act – Cuts duplication, streamlines bureaucracy, and allows leaders to eliminate outdated or ineffective agencies.

  • The Comprehensive Congressional Budget Act – Overhauls the broken budget process by empowering all members of Congress to review and update the entire federal budget.

  • The REINS Act – Requires congressional approval for major regulations, ensuring elected officials—not unelected bureaucrats—make the rules.

  • The Midnight Rules Relief Act – Blocks last-minute regulatory power grabs by outgoing administrations, restoring transparency and oversight.

  • Rescissions Packages – Reclaims unspent or wasteful funds, eliminating programs that no longer serve taxpayers and reducing the national debt.

A New National Effort to Demand Change

The campaign’s seven-figure investment includes digital, television, and grassroots outreach to educate Americans and mobilize support for these reforms. The new website, MakeGovernmentWork.com, serves as the campaign’s hub — offering tools for citizens to learn more, contact lawmakers, and join the movement to hold Washington accountable.

“Americans deserve a government that works for them — not one that wastes their money, dodges responsibility, and governs by chaos,” Strang added. “This campaign is about putting power back where it belongs: in the hands of the people.”

Americans have made it abundantly clear they don’t support government shutdowns. According to a recent YouGov poll commissioned by Americans for Prosperity, finds 61% of Americans agree that shutdowns are bad for Congress’s ability to help the country succeed. In the midst of this ongoing shutdown, AFP is strongly urging Congress to put politics aside and pass a clean funding resolution to reopen the government as soon as possible.
