AFP Comes to Washington with a Message: Make All the Tax Cuts Permanent

WASHINGTON, DC- This week, Americans for Prosperity held 135 meetings on Capitol Hill to highlight the urgent need not only to extend the Trump Tax Cuts—but to also make them permanent. The certainty that comes with permanent tax policy is critical for driving economic growth, providing lasting relief and peace of mind to every American, and giving small businesses the confidence they need to invest in America’s economy.
The House-passed bill was a huge step in the right direction, but the Senate now has the opportunity to eliminate the expiration date and lock in pro-growth tax policy for a generation of Americans. Making key tax provisions like bonus depreciation and R&D expensing permanent would lead to significant economic upside well beyond what would be anticipated if the cuts needed to be renewed again in a few years.
Brent Gardner, AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer, issued the following statement on the importance of permanent tax policy:
“With a $4 trillion tax hike looming, making the Trump tax cuts permanent should be the top priority for driving economic growth. That’s why this week, over 90 AFP grassroots leaders came to Washington to meet with lawmakers to urge them to seize this moment to lock-in a generation of economic growth and prosperity by taking the threat of higher taxes in the future off the table.
“We’re still digging out from the wreckage of Bidenomics—a faltering economy weighed down by higher taxes and reckless spending. That’s why permanent tax cuts are the ultimate drivers of sustained growth. For Senators looking to improve the House bill, this is where they should focus. Extending the Trump tax cuts is critically important – making them permanent has the potential to undo the damage of the last four years and change the trajectory of our entire economy.
“The country is counting on Republicans in Congress to get this done. It’s time for them to deliver an enormous win to the American people.”
