WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives swiftly passed HR 4: Rescissions Act of 2025, sending the cost-cutting package to President Trump’s desk for signature.

The rescissions package cuts more than $9 billion in federal funding, fulfilling the White House and lawmakers’ commitment to rein in government spending and address the national debt.  As AFP’s Kurt Couchman recently explained in The Hill, President Trump and Congress should continue to prioritize savings packages and repairs to the broken federal budget process to protect taxpayers and promote sound management in Washington.

AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardnerissued the following statement upon passage:

“We applaud the White House for creating momentum around cutting government spending and fostering better taxpayer stewardship in Congress. This is an incredible moment, but there is more work to be done in Washington to instill an environment of fiscal responsibility and deliver real results for the American people.

“We hope lawmakers will work alongside President Trump to prioritize additional spending cuts in Congress. The rescissions package was a critical first step in reining in waste, fraud, and abuse and changing the culture in Washington to one of fiscal responsibility and taxpayer stewardship. But more must be done, and we stand ready to work alongside lawmakers to identify future areas of government inefficiency.”
