AFP Calls on Senators Kelly and Gallego to End the Longest Government Shutdown in American History

Phoenix, AZ — Today, as the government shutdown becomes the longest in American history, Americans for Prosperity–Arizona (AFP-AZ) is calling on Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego to put people over politics and support a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government.

Arizonans are feeling the pain from this shutdown. Working families across the state are feeling the pain of partisan politics. AFP is calling out Democrat leaders who have dug in their heels and pursued a strategy of using the American people as leverage for their political games instead of doing what’s right and reopening the government.

AFP-AZ State Director Stephen Shadegg released the following statement:

“Senate Democrats are now responsible for the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

“Senators Kelly and Gallego have blocked a straightforward plan to reopen the government fourteen times, despite supporting the same plan thirteen times when Joe Biden was in office.

“Arizona families are paying the price for their hypocrisy. It’s time for Kelly and Gallego to put Arizona first, reject partisan political games, and immediately bring this shutdown to an end.”
