They served to defend freedom. We honor that service through gratitude. We carry their legacy forward through responsible citizenship.
Veterans Day reminds us that the freedoms and opportunities Americans enjoy were protected by people willing to put duty before self. The generation that knows whom it is thanking is better prepared to preserve what service made possible.
Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, marking the end of major hostilities in World War I on November 11, 1918. It later became a national day honoring all Americans who served in the Armed Forces—not only those who died in service.
That distinction matters. Memorial Day is centered on remembrance of the fallen. Veterans Day is an opportunity to recognize living veterans, hear their experiences, and honor the continuing example of service, leadership, and civic responsibility they offer their communities.
CVA believes veterans and their communities are a positive force to lead on and tackle the challenges America faces. As we build engaged communities of veterans, neighbors, and families, we embrace our shared respect for each other to inspire action, elevate our unique perspectives, and amplify concerned voices at all levels to help improve American lives.
