AFP-IN and Local Community Coalition Launch Grassroots Effort to Stop Northwest Allen County Tax Hike Referendum

Fort Wayne, IN – Americans for Prosperity–Indiana (AFP-IN), in partnership with a coalition of concerned community members, announced today the launch of a volunteer-driven grassroots campaign to stop the Northwest Allen County $12 million operating referendum that would raise property taxes on families already struggling to make ends meet.

The measure, slated for a November 4 special election, threatens to drive taxes even higher at a time when Hoosiers are already facing rising costs. This coalition effort will empower neighbors to connect directly with one another through door knocking, phone calls, and community outreach. The goal is to ensure every family understands the long-term consequences of the referendum and why sustainable reforms are needed that prioritize students and teachers without piling on an even heavier tax burden.

Tyler Turnwald, AFP-IN Grassroots Engagement Director, issued the following statement:

“Hoosier families are already feeling the squeeze from higher prices and rising tax bills. Asking them to hand over even more of their hard-earned money through a referendum is not a solution, it’s a band-aid on a broken system. Instead of continually coming back to taxpayers, we should be looking at how to make government live within its means, prioritize spending, and ensure every dollar supports students and teachers, not bureaucracy.

“This is why we are proud to stand alongside local volunteers and community leaders who are giving their time and energy to educate their neighbors and protect families from unnecessary tax hikes.”

Through sustained, citizen-led grassroots action, AFP-IN and its community partners are giving residents a strong voice in the future of their schools and neighborhoods while advocating for policies that protect taxpayers, improve education, and create more opportunity for all Hoosiers.
