Americans agree: We need a secure border.
Poll after poll, as well as the last election results, show Americans are on the same page, and it’s no surprise why.
The Biden Administration presided over the worst border crisis in recent history, straining community resources, leaving vulnerable people at the mercy of criminal organizations, and paralyzing our immigration system.
Vital funding included in the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill promises to lock in recent improvements we’ve seen at the border.
The One Big Beautiful Bill helps border security by:
But securing the border isn’t a one-time fix. It’s a long-term duty — one that every administration and Congress must take seriously.
A secure border is the first pillar of AFP’s Four Pillars of border security and visa reform.
Here’s why:
We live in a complex, highly interconnected, and potentially dangerous world.
To keep Americans safe, the government needs to know who is coming in and out of the country; they need to know that foreign visitors aren’t a threat to American citizens.
It’s just common sense: you wouldn’t let a stranger come into your house and risk the safety of your family.
When there are no legal options for immigrants and the border isn’t secure, law enforcement is overwhelmed and under strain, making it harder (and sometimes impossible) for them to focus on bad actors who wish to harm Americans.
To keep America safe, we need border security.
America is a country of laws. Always has been.
However, chaos at the border undermines that principle. If federal officers don’t have the tools or capability to do their jobs, the federal government’s ability to enforce our laws disappears.
In America we follow the rule of law, and if we want to keep following it we must have a secure and controlled border.
A chaotic border is unfair to everyone: For citizens whose local communities are under strain, for legal immigrants who’ve waited for years to come the right way and live their American Dream, and for the illegal immigrants themselves who fall victim to cruel human smuggling organizations.
To ensure America respects the rule of law, we also need to fix our broken immigration system, which is cumbersome and convoluted.
By streamlining and injecting some common sense into our immigration laws, fewer people will be incentivized to cross illegally, making it easier for Border Patrol to ensure our laws are respected.

Despite all the partisan rancor over immigration, polls show that Americans are pretty much in agreement on three key points:
That’s why the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill is a step in the right direction. It provides historic funding to fund infrastructure and law enforcement to ensure the federal government can secure the border.
There’s also strong support for smart, targeted reforms. Like streamlining visas for seasonal and agricultural workers and updating legal processes.
Americans want a secure border and an immigration system that works. It’s time for Washington to listen to them.
At Americans for Prosperity, we’ve been crystal clear on this issue: We need border security and an immigration system that makes America better and more competitive.
That’s why we’ve created a common-sense framework to ensure we have both: our four pillars on border security and visa reform.
Americans across the spectrum agree with us, now it’s up to Congress to do their part.
