What would our Founding Fathers think of America today…

Jul 3, 2012 by AFP

Happy July 4th As you enjoy the picnics and parades along with the family and neighborhood gatherings, please take time to reflect on our Founding Father’s vision of this great American experiment in a republican democracy.

Andrew Jackson, in his Farewell Address in 1837, said: “…Remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessings.  It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government”.

Our Forefathers risked their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to provide us with freedom.  They fought tyranny from across the ocean – a controlling government not at all unlike the path our great country is taking today.  Wile our military continues to sacrifice for our safety and freedom, we might ask:

Would our Founding Fathers recognize America today?

Would they support a tax on individuals who choose not to purchase something?  The historic Supreme Court ruling on the health care law – or should we call it a historic tax – in a conference call Monday with Texas AG Greg Abbott.  The full audio will be available later this week – here are some highlights from the call.

What would our Founding Fathers think of the U.S. credit downgrade – the first in our country’s history – and of the Superpower they created now being a debtor nation with over $16 trillion in debt on top of $1.3 billion in deficit spending.

Would our forefathers be surprised to know that we are leaving our children and grandchildren a legacy of debt?  Clearly, that is not the legacy we want to leave them.  Debt and unsustainable levels of government spending will deny future generations the opportunity to pursue and enjoy the American Dream.

Would our Forefathers support health care reform, which provided a vehicle not for health care but for higher taxes and more government intervention in our lives?

What would our Forefathers think about how schools are rewriting American history and demonizing capitalism and free market policies?  Citizen patriots are fighting to put America back in American history.  Government schools often do an abysmal job teaching the US Constitution or American history and much of what professionals on textbook review panels recommend is taken right out of the Communist Party manifesto.

Would our Founding Fathers support government-run schools, which cater not to students but to the education bureaucracy, or a system where parents choose the educational environment where they believe their children have the greatest opportunity to learn?

Would our Founding Fathers be appalled to know that the President of the United States does not salute at a military memorial service?

Would our Forefathers be surprised that graduates with college degrees in empty-headed programs like “pop culture” are unable to get a job, while college graduates are walking across the state, receiving their diploma and a fat college student  loan bill averaging over $24,000-27,000?  Or to learn that student loan debt has surpassed $1 billion, more than all credit card debt in the country?

Would our Founding Fathers be willing to give control of our economy to international organizations?  Today, some federal courts and regulations rely on international treaties which – though unsigned by the US – limit our liberties and our property rights while monkey wrenching our economy.

Would our Forefathers support the Environment Protection Agency regulating the very air we exhale?

Didn’t our Founding Fathers have reverence for the rule of law?  Today, in our legal system, designed to defend us, we find corrupt judges and lawyers who feed off the system.

We have much work to do to Take Back America and secure the Blessings of Liberty which our Founding Fathers ordained.  That work starts today, and it starts with you and me.

This isn’t our first American crisis…and it won’t be the last.

“Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must… undergo the fatigue of supporting it.” – Thomas Paine: The American Crisis
