Taxpayer Madness ‘Winner’: Obamacare Risk Corridors

Apr 19, 2016 by AFP

After weeks of voting, AFP’s Taxpayer Madness finally has a winner (or loser, depending on how you look at it)!

Thousands of Americans voted for which big-government program was the most outrageous, choosing from corporate welfare giveaways, government mandates, and tax breaks for the wealthy.

Obamacare Risk Corridors outpolled forced unionism, the Solyndra mess, and hospital provider taxes on its way to the championship, where it received more votes than the winner of the State Conference, Tennessee’s Paycheck Protection.

Risk Corridors are a provision buried within the thousands of pages of Obamacare that promises insurers would be bailed out if their involvement in the health care law goes awry.

Obamacare forces Americans to obtain health insurance, pays out billions in subsidies, and if it still doesn’t work out for the insurance companies, the risk corridors were meant to insure that the companies would get bailed out by taxpayers.

The Daily Caller reported on the results, quoting AFP: “After tens of thousands of votes were tallied in Americans for Prosperity’s Taxpayer Madness bracket, the verdict is clear: this tax day, the American public still overwhelmingly has ObamaCare on the mind.”

Americans haven’t forgot about Obamacare, and are especially angry at how the president’s health care law uses our tax dollars to help cover the massive cost overruns associated with the law. Without pumping more of our money into the system, insurers would likely sink under the weight of this calamity.

Families across the country are struggling under the burdensome regulations and high costs of Obamacare. Americans for Prosperity will continue to stand against this disastrous policy, and will not stop until its harmful effects on families and small businesses are rolled back.
