AFP activists support leukemia patient after Peters tried to use Beltway legal team to silence her.
LANSING — Americans for Prosperity activists joined Julie Boonstra, who is fighting leukemia, in attempting to confront Rep. Gary Peters over his effort to silence her ObamaCare story. On Saturday, a group of the organization’s most committed activists traveled with Julie to Peters’ Bloomfield Hills home to try to get him to take responsibility for his support of ObamaCare. Last week, AFP began running ads that allowed Julie to tell the story of her plan being cancelled due to ObamaCare, the life-threatening coverage gap she faced, and the new uncertainty over her finances. (View the ad here).
Peters’ campaign responded not by heeding Julie’s pleas to get her relief from ObamaCare, nor even listening to her concerns. Instead, they threatened Michigan television stations over their broadcast licenses in an attempt to get the ad pulled and hide Peters’ complicity in the ‘Lie of the Year’ and continued support for ObamaCare. “Congressman Peters needs to know that attempting to silence a woman who’s fighting leukemia for her life is completely unacceptable,” said AFP-Michigan State Director Scott Hagerstrom. “It’s clear now that Gary Peters has zero interest in accepting accountability for supporting ObamaCare or in helping free his constituents from its numerous burdens. He owes Julie and all of those who’ve been harmed by ObamaCare a sincere apology.”
