Dear Senators:
On behalf of more than 2.8 million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I write to you in strong support of S.J. Res 23 and S.J. Res 24 that would disapprove of the Environmental Protection Agency’s controversial Clean Power Plan (CPP) and New Source Performance Standards (NSPS).
We urge you to vote YES on both S.J. Res. 23 and S.J. Res. 24 to protect Americans from increased electricity costs and lost jobs. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s new rules establishing carbon emissions standards for power plants will have a devastating effect on the economy. Coupled together, the so-called Clean Power Plan and the New Source Performance Standards will limit Americans’ access to affordable and reliable electricity. These rules will hamstring economic growth and job creation, and disproportionately burden lower-income households.
Passing these CRA Resolutions clear signal to the Paris climate negotiators that that President Obama’s expansive green energy agenda does not have support on Capitol Hill. The lack of support is grounded in the fact that studies have forecasted that policies such as the Clean Power Plan will increase electricity prices by double digits in 40 states by 2020, have annual compliance costs up to $39 billion, and collectively families across the nation will have between $64 billion to $79 billion less to spend. Furthermore, the New Source Performance Standard bans coal fired generating units while devoting hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in grants and credits to more costly forms of energy
We urge you to vote YES on both S.J. Res. 23 and S.J. Res. 24 to protect Americans from increased electricity costs and lost jobs. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.
