Senate Key Vote: Vote YES on the Cruz-Lee amendment to defund Obamacare

Mar 11, 2013 by AFP

Dear Senators:

On behalf of more than 2.1 million Americans for Prosperity (AFP) activists in all 50 states, I encourage you to support the Cruz-Lee amendment to the continuing resolution (H.R. 933) that would defund the President’s health care law.

I urge you to vote YES on the Cruz-Lee amendment to defund the President’s health care law.  Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.

This amendment would zero out funding for President Obama’s health care law. With federal spending rising at an unprecedented rate, defunding this costly law is a critical first step to improving the nation’s finances. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) recklessly created a new trillion-dollar entitlement program when the country could least afford it.  The law uses the completely wrong approach to bringing health care costs down over the long term. The President’s law increases government intervention and burdensome regulations at a time when more choice and market-driven solutions are needed.

The President’s health care law is particularly damaging to economic growth. It discourages businesses from expanding and hiring more workers, since complying with its myriad regulations creates uncertainty and carries large costs. We are starting to see businesses cut hours for those already on their payroll. With the economy still struggling to recover, Washington should be looking for ways to encourage economic growth and job creation, not enact complicated regulations that stifle it.

I urge you to vote YES on the Cruz-Lee amendment to defund the President’s health care law.  Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.
