Op-Ed: Why NJ should rethink buying more open space

The following op-ed by state director Daryn Iwicki appeared in the Star-Ledger/NJ.com:

What would you do with $6 billion? Pay down your debt? Pay bills? Fund your pension?

Once again, our Legislature has its priorities out of order. Instead of paying down our state debt, paying state bills and making sure we have the money to pay into the pension fund, the Legislature is focusing on spending billions of tax dollars on open space. A bill that failed to gain traction in the last session (SCR2) has already been reintroduced in the state Senate. This reckless proposal would amend the state Constitution to dedicate $200 million in sales tax revenue for 30 years toward open space — a total that could reach a whopping $6 billion.
