As Chief Executive Officer for Americans for Prosperity, Luke Hilgemann shapes the national strategic vision for the organization. Hilgemann leads a team that ensures that strategic goals, technological capability and organizational missions all align to keep AFP’s volunteers leading the charge in the fight for economic freedom.

Hilgemann was elevated to CEO from his most recent position as Chief Operating Officer, and in both roles he’s led AFP to significant growth— including expansion into new states and the development of an unprecedented 2014 field effort that saw staff and volunteers connect with more than nine million Americans at the door and on the phone. AFP has since eclipsed those numbers again, making over 36 million attempted contacts in 2016.

Prior to joining AFP’s leadership team, Hilgemann directed the group’s Wisconsin chapter during a critical budget crisis that saw the state with billions of dollars in red ink. Luke led tens of thousands of activists to advocate for Act 10, a transformative set of budget and worker-freedom reforms that revived the state’s fiscal outlook and continue to have a positive impact today.

Under Hilgemann’s leadership, Americans for Prosperity has ccomplished major policy victories this year in state legislatures and at the federal level, racking up tens of billions of dollars in savings for the taxpayer. Some highlights included capping a multibillion-dollar welfare scheme called Enterprise Florida, making West Virginia the 26th right-to-work state, eliminating the final tax on income in Tennessee, and more. AFP also engaged in a targeted strategy to defeat several big-government candidates for Senator and Governor, defeating almost every one of them in the process.

AFP and its network of staff and volunteers are expanding operations even further in 2017, joining forces with aligned network groups LIBRE, Generation Opportunity, and Concerned Veterans for America, to ensure the message of economic freedom reaches as broad an audience as possible. With his guidance, the groups will undertake strategic initiatives as the state and federal level that complement our shared goals and vision for a free society.

A Wisconsin native, Hilgemann has spent his life fighting for lower taxes, limited government and personal freedom. Before joining AFP, he did that work through a number of roles in the Wisconsin legislature, working his way to Chief of Staff for the State Assembly’s majority leader.

Luke currently resides in Virginia with his wife Jayme and their three children. In his spare time, Luke enjoys hunting, fishing and passing the outdoor heritage on to his kids.
