New AFP Taxpayer Minute Spot Calls for Elimination of NJ’s Death Taxes
MONMOUTH JUNCTION—Americans for Prosperity, the state’s leading grassroots, free-market group, is taking to the airwaves this week with a new Taxpayer Minute radio spot calling for the elimination of the state’s death taxes.
“New Jersey’s tax climate is terrible enough, but the fact that we are one of only two states to have both an estate and inheritance tax is disturbing and needs to change,” contended AFP state director Daryn Iwicki. “These taxes are just plain immoral and unjust. The Legislature has an opportunity to eliminate these death taxes this year and do the right thing for our residents.
“By taking our case to the public, AFP will be going on offense and building up grassroots pressure on lawmakers to take action to repeal these unfair, harmful taxes.”
AFP’s Taxpayer Minute spot excerpt:
“New Jersey is behind the times when it comes to death taxes as thirty-one states have neither an estate nor inheritance tax. New Jersey is only one of two states that have both of these arbitrary taxes on the books. This is just one more reason for our retired to move to another state so loved ones are not taxed on things they worked hard for their entire lives.
Our farming communities would certainly be most affected by the elimination of the estate tax. Instead of their next of kin being walloped with a tax bill they cannot afford, eliminating the estate tax will allow them to pass down their large land holdings to their family and keep the property as farmland.”
AFP is encouraging citizen-activists to contact their lawmakers on this issue and to sign the pro-taxpayer group’s new action alert letter urging lawmakers to support repeal legislation.
