Representative John Kavanagh of Legislative District 23 is AFP-Arizona’s Legislator of the Week for his efforts to end the practice of “pension spiking” in Arizona this session.
HB 2058, which he sponsored, would limit the annual compensation used for determining benefits to $150,000. It has already passed out of the House and, on Wednesday, was passed by the Senate Finance Committee.
In addition to being Chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, Representative Kavanagh is a professor of criminal justice at Scottsdale Community College and has taught at Arizona State University as well.
A resident of Arizona for 20 years, Representative Kavanagh and his wife Linda live in Fountain Hills, where she serves as mayor.
