Americans for Prosperity Asks Sen Hagan if She has a Solution for Skyrocketing HealthCare Costs

RALEIGH – Americans for Prosperity – North Carolina is asking Senator Kay Hagan to respond to the latest news of ObamaCare’s failures and explain how the broken law is in the best interests of her constituents. Yesterday Blue Cross Blue Shield announced that enrollees on its plans in the state exchanges were older and sicker than expected – by a wide margin. This has resulted in health insurance premiums skyrocketing for couples like Amanda LaRoque and her husband.

“Another day and we learn more news about how Washington bureaucrats didn’t anticipate yet another costly flaw with the ObamaCare healthcare law,” explained John Dudley, North Carolina State Director of Americans for Prosperity. “Amanda and her husband are paying double for health insurance because President Obama and Senator Hagan decided Washington can make better decisions than they can. Now we are seeing the proof that in fact they were wrong, but the LaRoque’s and millions of other Americans are already watching their premiums soar.”

Yesterday Blue Cross Blue Shield reported that it had expected 50 percent of enrollees on its plans on the health care exchanges to be 34 years old or younger, but it only reached 32 percent. At the same time, 69 percent were between 35 and 54, rather than the expected 49 percent. The premium hike hitting couples like the LaRoques is a direct result of insurance companies making up the costs that they were planning to cover with younger, healthier enrollees.
