Key Vote Alert: Support Workers Act of 2015

Jan 5, 2015 by AFP

Dear Senators and Representatives:

On behalf of more than two million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I write to urge you to vote YES on Rep. Young’s “Save American Workers Act of 2015,” which would redefine the full-time work week under the President’s healthcare law to 40 hours.

I urge you to vote YES on final passage of H.R. 30, re-establishing the 40 hour definition of full-time work. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.

The President’s healthcare law set up a number perverse incentives that will affect millions of Americans seeking work, particularly low and middle income workers. One of those perverse incentives is Obamacare’s controversial mandate changing the definition of full-time work from 40 hours a week to 30.

This ill-advised provision will further hamstring job growth by putting pressure on employers to limit employees’ work hours or hire new full-time workers. Consequently, many workers will see their hours cut and their paychecks shrink, while younger and lower-skilled workers will miss out on the kind of invaluable work experience they need to move up the income ladder.

I urge you to vote YES on final passage of H.R. 30, re-establishing the 40 hour definition of full-time work. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.

Sincerely,

Brent Wm. Gardner
