Dear Senators:
On behalf of more than two million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I write to urge you to reject efforts to extend the production tax credit (PTC), the main handout for the wind energy industry.
We urge you to vote NO on the Heitkamp amendment that would extend the production tax credit (PTC) for 5 years. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.
At 2.3 cents per megawatt hour, the production tax credit provides the wind energy industry with an unrivaled level of federal subsidy. Even though this handout has existed 14 years, American taxpayers have woefully little for their forced investment in wind energy. The wind industry consistently fails to deliver on its promises of long-term job creation and economic viability.
Americans for Prosperity was disappointed in Congress for extending the PTC retroactively this past December. As a result, American taxpayers will be forced to provide $13 billion over the next decade to wind farm projects that already started. Clearly these projects didn’t require the subsidy.
Extending the PTC – especially for a period of five years – would be a mistake. A vote for the PTC is a vote for President Obama’s green energy agenda, which threatens Americans’ access to affordable and reliable energy. Members of Congress should stand up for American energy consumers and finally say no to special interests in the wind energy industry.
AFP urges you to vote NO on the Heitkamp amendment that would extend the production tax credit (PTC) for 5 years. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.
