Inside Look: Florida’s State Lawmakers Begin to Meet

Nov 19, 2018 by AFP

Elections are (mostly) in the rearview mirror, and it’s time to get back to work in Tallahassee.

The legislature’s organizing session will officially kick off tomorrow and Americans for Prosperity Florida is ready to work for more freedom and opportunity in the Sunshine State in 2019. Here’s your inside look at session proceedings:

  • State Rep. Jose Oliva will step into a new role as state House speaker, while state Sen. Bill Galvano will take over as Senate president. AFP is looking forward to working with them to advance freedom in Florida.
  • Tomorrow, Legislature Organizational Session begins. Florida legislators will head to Tallahassee to organize leadership and committee assignments so work can start back up in the new year.
  • In the weeks following the organizational session, the legislature will hold interim committee meetings, preparing agendas and priorities for session.
  • Inauguration Day is Jan. 8! Legislators will get down to business starting the second week of January and continue working through the spring.

AFP Florida is looking forward to the 2019 legislative session and plans to call for more freedom and prosperity! We’re confident that we can work with legislators on both sides of the aisle and Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis to advance policies that keep taxes low, remove barriers for workers and students and ensure Floridians have every chance to succeed!

Be on the lookout for AFP Florida’s annual Florida Billboard coming out in January. This tool will allow you to track legislation and votes, so you know exactly what’s going on in Tallahassee.

We’re excited for this legislative session to start and continue on the path to success in Florida!
