The Arizona chapter of Americans for Prosperity has a real chance to make 2014 a great year for grassroots victories for free-market policies.
As you know from our recent action alerts, the state legislative session in full swing, and we are grateful to the thousands of activists who have taken action to move our priority bills through the legislative process. We are on track to win policy victories on issues ranging from school choice to budget transparency to the protection of workers’ rights against political exploitation by government employee unions – and we even have some opportunities to limit the damage ObamaCare is doing to some of our fellow Arizonans.
As always, our biggest victories happen when “ordinary” people stand up and fight back against Big Government. Please take a few moments to listen to Julie’s story…
When Julie took the airwaves to tell her story about her battles with cancer and with ObamaCare, Congressman Gary Peters sent an army of lawyers to local television stations, demanding that they stop Julie from telling her story. It was a direct attack on Julie’s right to criticize ObamaCare — a failing health care reform that promised to help her, but which in fact denied her the vital care she needs (and which has caused six million other people to lose their health care coverage). In response to Peters’ crass political and legal attack, AFP activists around the country created a firestorm on social media and created a national news story about the efforts of left-wing politicians to silence critics of ObamaCare.
In 2014, our biggest efforts to empower the conservative grassroots will happen through our Field Plan. Here in Arizona, our Field Team is moving rapidly to build up and mobilize our grassroots army for maximum impact. We have grown our grassroots capacity by leaps and bounds in the past few weeks. Longtime Colorado activist Leslie White has moved to Arizona to serve as our Deputy State Director and to manage all of Arizona’s field operations. Leslie is one of the best grassroots activists in the country, and we are blessed to have her here in Arizona!
In addition to Leslie, we have also hired three full-time Field Directors, who will be AFP’s on-the-ground organizers in the Mogollon Rim high country, in Pinal County, and in Pima and Cochise Counties. Judy Hoelscher, Karen MacKean and Karen Schutte are experienced and dedicated activists, and will ensure that AFP’s grassroots volunteer army beats the Left in the ground game across the state.
Through our massive phonebanking and door-to-door canvassing operations in the coming months, our Field Team will educate citizens in every part of Arizona about the damage caused by the Left’s assaults on health care freedom, job creation and affordable energy – real harm caused to everyday citizens like you and me and Julie. And of course, when we’re out there communicating with your neighbors, we’ll make sure that we name names. When politicians such as Ron Barber and Ann Kirkpatrick support policies that harm Arizona citizens – and their children and grandchildren – we will let people know.
Finally, our sister organization Americans for Prosperity Foundation will be undertaking a separate effort to ensure that citizens who support limited government and economic freedom get out to vote. After all, one of the best ways to make your elected representatives responsive to your concerns is to vote.
This is an important year – and AFP-Arizona is happy and proud to fight back against the federal onslaught, but we can’t do it without your help…
In addition to your help on the ground, we need the financial support that will enable Leslie, Judy, and the Karens to continue recruiting volunteers to make calls and knock on doors in neighborhoods across Arizona.
I am asking you to please consider donating $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 – or any amount that you are able – to aid our team in the fight to stand up for hard-working Arizonans and their families!
Thank you for all you do to fight for hard-working Arizona taxpayers and their families and for the cause of limited government and economic prosperity. I hope you will continue to stand with us in 2014, as together we make this a year to remember!
