Columbia, SC—Following the South Carolina Supreme Court’s ruling that the Education Scholarship Trust Fund is in violation of the state’s constitution, Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) pushed back on the decision highlighting how instrumental Education Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) have been in funding education pathways for lower income families.
AFP-SC Director of Public Affairs, Candace Carroll, released the following statement:
“As neighboring states in the region continue to move towards transformative, universal education models, it’s troubling to see South Carolina’s court stifle education opportunities by ruling against our already limited ESA model weeks into the school year.
“The Supreme Court’s decision is misguided and will impact thousands of lower income families who have received ESA funding for the 2024-2025 school year to obtain an education that works for them. In the upcoming legislative session, AFP-SC will continue to push for a bill that poses a refundable tax credit so parents in need of funding can quickly have a solution to their child’s education.”
