Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina: Now Is Not the Time to Raise Taxes

Greenville, SC—Following recent debates over a one percent sales tax in Greenville, Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) expressed its opposition to the increase noting the ways in which residents are already dealing with higher cost-of-living expenses.

AFP-SC Director of Public Affairs, Candace Carroll, released the following statement:

“With high inflation and the cost-of-living feeling overwhelming for many Greenville families, any attempt to raise taxes should be reconsidered. With our roadways already receiving state funding for infrastructure, increasing the burden on taxpayers, even only by one percent, is misguided.

“Families need to keep more of their hard-earned income, not cover the bill for additional state expenses. Since 2021, reckless spending in Washington and soaring inflation has cost South Carolinians $988 more a month to maintain their lifestyles – it’s clear that now is not the time to increase taxes.”

As the November vote approaches, AFP-SC will utilize the strength of its grassroots to educate voters in Greenville County about the importance of voting no on this proposal.
