AFP-SC grassroots army will engage in state races for the first time in chapter’s history

COLUMBIA, SC—Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) announced its support of five candidates to serve various parts of the Palmetto State, reported first by the SC Daily Gazette. With a priority to advance policies that put South Carolina families, schools, and businesses first, AFP-SC is confident that these principled leaders will take on issues that unleash economic prosperity and freedom.

As a major grassroots mobilizer, AFP-SC activists are known to reach thousands of voters in a given election cycle. The chapter will also be utilizing digital and mail ads to connect with South Carolina residents ahead of the June 11, 2024, primary.

AFP-SC State Director, Candace Carroll, released the following statement:

“While our endorsement list will expand to more candidates, we are thrilled to announce our support behind these first five leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to policies that keep South Carolina a state where economic growth, access to health care, education freedom, and prosperity can thrive.

“AFP-SC takes the voice of South Carolinians to the State House to address issues that matter most to them, and we need aligned leaders who will help us advance key legislation. Our grassroots army is ready to get out in these districts leading up to the June primary and fight for principled leaders.”

AFP-SC Endorsed Candidates:

State Rep. Jason Elliott SD-06

Representative Elliott has been a proven leader and collaborator with AFP-SC working to advance key legislation such as repealing Certificate of Need (CoN) regulations, expanding educational opportunities through ESAs, and rolling back taxes as well as regulations for South Carolinians.

State Sen. Wes Climer SD-15

Senator Climer has been a major advocate for repealing South Carolina’s CoN laws; he played a critical role in the legislative process that unleashed more competition in South Carolina’s health care market. He is also a champion on expanding educational opportunities and keeping the state’s budget fiscally responsible.

State Sen. Katrina Shealy SD-23

Senator Shealy has been an advocate for expanding freedom in education and health care while also working to reduce taxes in the state. She has been a strong partner of AFP-SC, ranking high on our scorecard, while working to remove barriers that inhibit individuals from being able to live their version of the American Dream.

Speaker G. Murrell Smith, Jr. HD-67

As a strong partner of AFP, Speaker Smith has not only moved but led on legislation such as occupational licensing reform, repealing CoN, and most recently the Universal ESA bill.

Sarah Curran HD-20

AFP-SC believes Curran will be a strong partner on taxation and spending issues, having stated support for phasing out the South Carolina income tax and implementing a zero-based budgeting system. She is also aligned with AFP-SC on key issues such as deregulating energy and labor sectors and universal school choice.
