Baton Rouge, LA–Americans for Prosperity–Louisiana (AFP-LA) applauded leaders in the House for passing a slate of bills including HB 1, 3, and 7 this week. Under Governor Jeff Landry’s proposed tax plan, these bills play a large part to flatten and simplify the individual income tax, repeal the corporate franchise tax, and revise Article VII of the State Constitution and are among other key provisions of the greater tax package. AFP-LA says these votes are an important step in changing the state’s complex and burdensome tax code.
AFP-LA State Director, Scott Simon, released the following statement:
“This week AFP-LA is encouraged to see legislators come alongside the Governor’s tax plan and move towards practical steps that get Louisiana in fiscal order with a low-rate and flat individual income tax. We look forward to working throughout the special session to help ensure long-lasting and fiscally responsible tax reform is accomplished and hope the Senate quickly follows the House in taking up these and the other tax reform bills.”
Background
AFP-LA has stood up a new online resource to educate Louisianans on their potential savings with the passage of tax reform and encourages residents to take action by contacting their elected officials. In addition, last month Simon testified during a House Ways and Means Hearing on the importance of responsibly accomplishing tax reform this special session.
