WASHINGTON, DC – Last week, Americans for Prosperity – South Carolina awarded three members of Congress with “Pioneers for Prosperity” awards.

The award honors distinguished lawmakers who were policy champions during the 118th Congress. These leaders are on the frontlines in Congress advancing principles and policies that drive the conservative movement, while proactively opposing harmful ideas that grow the size of government and take money out of taxpayers’ paychecks. The “Pioneers for Prosperity” stood firm against ill-advised legislation that would have deepened the hardships felt by working families and worked closely with AFP in Washington as well as with our grassroots communities in their home states.

Lawmakers earned recognition for supporting bills such as the Employee Rights Act, Strategic Production Response Act, Lower Energy Costs Act, Health Care Fairness for All Act, and other pivotal pieces of legislation that offer common-sense solutions that would improve Americans’ lives.

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) as well as Representatives William Timmons (SC-04) and Ralph Norman (SC-05) earned this distinction for their representation of The Palmetto State.

AFP-SC State Director Matt Humm released the following statement:

“We are thrilled to honor these legislators who have stood for South Carolinians in Congress, ensuring a pathway to prosperity is possible for everyone. Next year, we look forward to working alongside them to ensure fiscal deadlines are met with policy solutions that ensure taxes are not increased.”

Sen. Tim Scott released the following statement:

“My mission in public service has always been to positively affect the lives of a billion people with a message of hope and opportunity. Being recognized as a Pioneer for Prosperity is a great honor, but only motivates me more to champion and implement policies to help all Americans have the opportunity to succeed and pursue their American Dream.”

Rep. Ralph Norman released the following statement:

“I am honored to have received Americans for Prosperity’s Pioneers for Prosperity award for the 118th Congress. It’s a fact that the federal government is hemorrhaging money in a dangerous way. We are looking at $2 trillion deficits this year alone, added to more than $35 trillion of existing debt. Congress ought to take the tough votes to stop this spending trajectory–and soon. I am proud of the work that AFP does to pursue responsible fiscal practices.”

Last week, AFP-SC met with Members in Washington to discuss major tax policies, including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, that are set to expire at the end of 2025 which are commonly referred to as the “fiscal cliff” and what AFP’s new polling found on these key issues.
