Harrisburg, Pennsylvania—In response to Governor Shapiro’s recent executive order creating the Office of Transformation and Opportunity, Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) State Director Emily Greene issued the following statement:
“While AFP-PA is supportive of efforts to streamline certain permits through the newly created Office of Transformation and Opportunity, this executive order does not go far enough to fully transform the Keystone State’s regulatory regime.
“Members of Governor Shapiro’s own party have stalled truly transformative legislation that would cut burdensome red tape across the board. According to research by the Mercatus Center, Pennsylvania is the 14th most regulated state in the country. Proposals like the Transparency in Permitting Act, the Automatic 3-Year Review of Economically Significant Regulations, or the Legislative Approval of Economically Significant Regulations would dramatically reduce the regulatory burden imposed on Pennsylvania’s small business community and save the taxpayers money in the process.
“Next session AFP-PA expects Democrats in Harrisburg to follow the Governor’s lead and come to the table to reclaim the General Assembly’s rulemaking authority. We’re excited to work with champions like Senator Kristen Phillips-Hill to remake the Commonwealth’s regulatory regime in the new year.”
