After being signed into law by Gov. Ralph Northam in March of 2018, House Bill 883 created a pilot program to reduce regulations in both the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services by 25 percent by 2021.

This bipartisan law has made Virginia the leader in red-tape rollbacks nationwide. That’s great news for Virginians because:

• 1,200 regulations have already been identified for removal through the pilot program.
• Without burdensome red tape, innovators and businesses can create more jobs and economic opportunities for themselves and their communities
• Due in part to this law, Virginia is back in the top five best states in which to do business.
• At the conclusion of the pilot program, the state will assess the outcome and make recommendations to expand the program across other areas of government, laying the foundation to remove even more barriers for Virginians.

Because red tape is being cut in occupational licensing and criminal justice regulations, people across the commonwealth can better realize their full potential and improve their communities.
