Here’s our why:
Colorado politicians are trying to tack on an additional gas fee at the pump for various transportation and infrastructure projects. However, requiring taxpayers to hand over more money is the wrong way to go about solving this problem. A new gas tax or fee will disproportionately impact low-income Coloradans and small businesses that are struggling to get back on their feet.
According to this recent poll, the majority of Coloradans oppose this additional fee. With so many Coloradans struggling to get back on their feet, now is now the time to raise taxes or add new fees. Politicians should listen to their constituents and prioritize what our state truly needs, instead of asking the taxpayers to foot the bill.
A new gas tax or fee would raise the price of goods and services for everyone, making it more expensive to get to and from work and pay for everyday goods like groceries.
A new gas tax or fee harms low-income Coloradans the most and these are the people that can least afford it.
A new gas fee would deny Colorado voters the opportunity to vote on proposed fee increases, violating Proposition 117, which the voters just passed in November of 2020.
