No Tax Hike in Alpine School District!

Aug 13, 2018 by AFP

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Americans for Prosperity-Utah denounced Alpine School District’s plan to increase residents’ property taxes by $1.3 million. The school district is planning to raise property taxes by 3.11% this year, permanently increasing the average Alpine School District homeowner’s property tax bill.

“This proposal is unnecessary and unfair to Alpine School District tax payers. The district has put forward a proposal to increase taxes even though they have given tax breaks to massive corporations for decades,” said Americans for Prosperity-Utah State Director Heather Williamson. “Taking more of Utahns hard-earned money, after voters just approved a bond and without working with parents and teachers to ensure the money is actually going to benefit kids in the classroom, is a breathtaking display of mismanagement. Taxpayers, teachers, and students deserve better.”

Alpine School District residents are already set to be hit by a $125 million property taxes increase this year. If Alpine school district passes this proposal, residents will pay even more in property taxes.

The Alpine School Board will vote on the tax increase in a public Truth-in-Taxation hearing on August 14th. Americans for Prosperity-Utah is mobilizing its grassroots activists to contact the school board to tell them to vote against the property tax increase.
