Americans for Prosperity Urges House Committee To Pass Bill To Empower Homeschool Parents

Proposal Would Allow Homeschooled Students to Work During School Day With Parent’s Permission

Lansing, Mich. — Today, Americans for Prosperity-Michigan (AFP-MI) urged the House Education Committee to pass H.B. 4063, a bill that would allow students who are homeschooled to work during the day with a parent-issued work permit. The Committee is scheduled to consider the legislation Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

AFP-MI State Director Annie Patnaude issued the following statement:

“I was homeschooled for my entire life and got my first job at age 14. The real world experience from such a young age proved to be invaluable. This bill is especially timely given the dramatic increase in the number of families who have chosen to homeschool in light of the pandemic and continued school closures. Those parents should be empowered to make choices that best meet their children’s needs, and for many, that may include on-the-job training. I strongly urge members of the Michigan House Education Committee to pass this important legislation.”
