Ramping Up Grassroots Pressure on Both Parties to Oppose Cronyist Institution
RALEIGH – Americans for Prosperity has begun a major grassroots initiative to put pressure on key members of the North Carolina congressional delegation to oppose reauthorization of the Export Import bank. Particularly heavy pressure is being placed on Representative Patrick McHenry, who recently flip-flopped on his promise not to support reauthorization of the scandal-plagued bank. The other Representatives include: Renee Ellmers, Richard Hudson, Robert Pettinger, Mark Meadows, and George Holding.
“We are very disappointed in Congressman McHenry’s recent flip-flop and his decision to support reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank,” explained Donald Bryson, Deputy State Director of Americans for Prosperity. “Taxpayers no longer tolerate rampant cronyism and the Export Import bank is a clear example of Congress using taxpayer dollars to pick winners and losers. We are urging North Carolina taxpayers to call members of the North Carolina Congressional delegation to urge them to oppose reauthorization of a program that is blatant crony capitalism.”
AFP’s activists throughout the identified members districts are calling their Representatives to urge them to vote against reauthorization. AFP is key-voting the Export-Import bank’s reauthorization and will include it on the organization’s annual scorecard. This is part of a nationwide effort to oppose reauthorization.
