CONCORD – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) offered the following statement in response to the New Hampshire Senate’s passage of a 23% increase in the gas and diesel tax, technically called the road toll.

“The cost of energy is increasing dramatically for many New Hampshire residents, in large part because of the long, cold winter we’ve experienced, but also because the legislature passed a 25% increase in the home heating oil tax last year and now appears poised to pass a 23% hike in the gas and diesel tax,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director.  “At a time when our economy is still sputtering and many people are struggling to get by, the increase in energy costs will push some over the edge.  It’s time for common sense to prevail and for our elected officials to spend more time listening to their constituents who know that they can’t afford another tax increase now.”
