President’s words don’t match up with CBO numbers

Arlington, VA — Today Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s foremost advocate for economic and health care freedom, reacted to President Obama’s recent statement that “the United States is better-positioned for the 21st century than any other nation on Earth.”

The statement, which President Obama made during last week’s State of the Union address, runs contrary to new findings by the Congressional Budget Office. The Hill reports, according to the CBO report released Tuesday, the Affordable Care Act will severely stifle economic growth over the next decade, costing the nation about 2.5 million jobs and contributing to a $1 trillion increase in projected deficits.

Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips had the following to say: “President Obama’s claim that his efforts have put our country in an ideal place does not bear up under scrutiny. The Affordable Care Act is hurting Americans by leading to cancelled plans, lost coverage, and rising costs, but it’s also proving to be detrimental to economic growth, just as many of us predicted.

“The CBO’s numbers speak for themselves. The reality is, big government programs like ObamaCare do not and cannot create lasting prosperity or opportunity for anyone.”
