Americans for Prosperity Opposes Overregulation to Meet Colorado’s Greenhouse Gas Emission Goals

Colorado’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Can be Reduced by Fostering Innovation

DENVER, COAmericans for Prosperity came out against Colorado’s SB22-138, Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Colorado, because it proposes excessive, one-size-fits-all energy reduction mandates that would do little to benefit the environment while hurting Colorado’s most financially vulnerable. Notably, these mandates would ban gasoline-powered engines of 50 horsepower or less, used to fuel small off-road equipment like lawn mowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and chainsaws and give tax handouts to those who purchase electric powered small off-road equipment.

“We all want to be good stewards of the environment, but subjecting consumers, businesses and entrepreneurs to taxes, mandates, and regulations will undermine the kind of ingenuity Colorado needs to achieve its emission reduction goals” said Jesse Mallory, State Director for Americans for Prosperity-Colorado. He went on to add, “Colorado should remove barriers to innovation to unleash our entrepreneurs toward developing new technology that has proven far more effective at protecting our environment and protecting ratepayers than any top-down mandate or regulation.”
