CONCORD – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today congratulated the New Hampshire Senate for voting to kill House Bill 1403 which would raise the state’s minimum wage.  A Congressional Budget Office study found that raising the minimum wage nationally would eliminate 500,000 jobs.

“The Senate should be congratulated for killing this bill that undercuts important opportunities for our citizens,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director.  “A higher minimum wage would saw off the bottom rung of the career ladder for many unskilled New Hampshire workers and leave many out of a chance to get their first job.  It would also make our state less competitive at a time when we need to take more steps to shore up the New Hampshire Advantage.  For all these reasons, it is good for the state’s economy and its workers that the Senate wisely turned away this bill that would hurt many younger employees and potential employees.”
