Americans for Prosperity Applauds Pre-File of HB 1, Free Expression in Higher Ed

Nov 18, 2020 by AFP

ATLANTA, GA—Americans for Prosperity-Georgia (AFP-GA) today issued a statement in response to the pre-filing of HB 1, legislation aimed at protecting the free expression rights of students. Rep. Josh Bonner’s pre-filed legislation protects the rights of students and faculty, and clears the way for colleges to provide the kind of open environment that invites the next generation of leaders to think critically to find solutions to our greatest challenges.

Ahead of and during the 2021 legislative session, AFP-GA activists will urge their lawmakers to support this important step towards protecting free speech in higher education.

AFP-GA Deputy State Director Tony West issued the following statement:

“Our activists and students across Georgia applaud Rep. Josh Bonner for pre-filing House Bill 1. This legislation will be a great step towards protecting students’ ability to engage with ideas and with each other in higher education. We hope Rep. Bonner’s colleagues and members of the Georgia Senate will consider supporting this pivotal legislation.”

Background:

During the 2020 legislative session, AFP-GA supported similar legislation in SB 318 and HB 995.
