Americans for Prosperity Applauds Failure of Bill Aimed at Silencing Voters

Mar 8, 2022 by AFP

“By voting down this measure, the Senate State and Local Committee has ensured that voters will continue to have their voices heard.”

NASHVILLE, TN — Americans for Prosperity – Tennessee (AFP-TN) today applaud the Senate, State, and Local Committee for rejecting SB 2544.

The bill would have changed the number of required signatures for a referendum to be placed on the ballot from 10% of voters in the last election to 15% of all registered voters, a dramatic threshold increase.

State Director Tori Venable released the following statement:

“By voting down this measure, the Senate, State, and Local Committee has ensured that voters will continue to have their voices heard. The bill would have raised the signature threshold for voter-led referendums to a point where referendums would never make it on the ballot. Today’s vote is a win against those trying to silence voters.”
