Americans for Prosperity Applauds Commerce Committee for Passing Economic Development Programs, House bill 5

Mar 17, 2023 by AFP

Tallahassee, Fla. – Americans for Prosperity-Florida (AFP-FL) today issued the following statement after the House Commerce Committee passed House Bill 5, legislation that would eliminate funds for the Enterprise Florida program and transfer certain programs to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FL-DEO).

“The state of Florida has a compelling duty to ensure that taxpayer money is being used appropriately and responsibly. Over the years, the state has created incentive programs that are no longer needed nor efficient. These are programs that take money from all Floridians and give those dollars to few well-connected businesses in our state,” said Skylar Zander, state director for AFP-FL. “House bill 5 will specifically eliminate Enterprise Florida and transfer some programs to FL-DEO, protecting precious taxpayer resources and make state government more efficient. We commend Representative Tiffany Esposito, the members of the House Commerce Committee, and Speaker Paul Renner for seeing the wisdom of this forward-looking legislation.”
